El Paso Marathon Sponsors:
EL PASO – When runners sign up for one of the El Paso Marathon races, they are not only committing to a fitness goal. They are also helping local area charities receive funding through the El Paso Marathon Foundation.
This year, the entries to the Michelob Ultra El Paso Marathon, TFCU Half Marathon, and Up and Running 5K on Feb. 17 will all include the options for runners to donate to select area charities, including the Boys & Girls Clubs of El Paso, the Lee & Beulah Moore Children’s Home, and El Pasoans Fighting Hunger. So far for the 2019 races, runners have donated $652 when they sign up for the races.
Separately, after the races and all costs are covered, any leftover proceeds will be donated to El Paso-based charities by the El Paso Foundation.
The foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization, puts on the Michelob Ultra El Paso Marathon, TFCU Half Marathon, and Up and Running 5K, which all take place Feb. 17. Since the El Paso Marathon began in 2007, the El Paso Marathon Foundation has donated more than $250,000 to area charities.
In the past year, the foundation has made donations to the Lee & Beulah Moor Children’s Home, the Boys & Girls Clubs of El Paso, and El Pasoans Fighting Hunger.
The Lee & Beulah Moore Children’s Home supports El Paso children who are in need—for whatever reason. The organization provides quality programs and services for children and families who are experiencing difficulty in their lives by providing a nurturing, positive environment and teaching self-respect, respect for others, and the importance of taking responsibility for one’s decisions and actions.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of El Paso is a community-based organization that provides young people with a fun, safe and constructive environment when they are not at home or school. The foundation’s donation supports a youth running program called the Southside Running Club, which promotes youth running in Central El Paso, as a means to encourage a healthy lifestyle, improve academic achievement, and discourage drug and alcohol abuse.
El Pasoans Fighting Hunger runs El Paso’s Food Bank. Their mission is to combat the hunger crisis in our region by strategically procuring and distributing nutritious food through community partners, to ensure no one goes hungry.
All three organizations provided volunteer support for the 2018 edition of the Michelob Ultra El Paso Marathon, Half Marathon and Up and Running 5K.
The El Paso Marathon Foundation, which organizes the Michelob Ultra El Paso Marathon, El Paso Half Marathon and Up and Running 5K, is dedicated to promoting health and fitness in the El Paso region, providing support to local and national non-profit organizations.
The next El Paso Marathon races will be Feb. 17, 2019. People interested in running, volunteering or sponsoring can go to www.elpasomarathon.org for more information.
The marathon, half marathon and 5K all start and finish in the Southwest University Park, which is the home of the El Paso Chihuahuas AAA baseball team.
