February 23, 2014
Start Time: 7:00 am
Faster, Scenic Course: The marathon will begin atop TransMountain Road, head south onto the Fort Bliss military base, and finish in the Downtown Entertainment District.
Elevation Drop: For the first time, the El Paso Marathon will have a net elevation drop of 1,584 feet, making for a faster course to attract more runners hoping to qualify for the prestigious Boston Marathon.
Race numbers and timing chips must be picked up at the El Paso Marathon Expo; they cannot be mailed and will not be available for pick-up on race day. You must pick up your own race number and timing chip – no exceptions. You’ll need to show your race number to pick up your T-shirt and goodie bag.
This is a Boston Marathon Qualifier. Both gun and chip time results are sent to the Boston Athletic Association, which accepts chip time as a qualifying time. Qualification times earned at our 2013 marathon will be valid for 2013 and 2014 Boston entry.
Please direct all Boston Marathon registration questions to the Boston Marathon organization at www.baa.org.
Shed your layers at the start and pack dry clothes and your favorite post-race snack for the finish. You’ll receive a gear check bag and label at the Expo. Your goodie bag will serve as your gear bag on race day. Bags must be claimed by 2 p.m. on race day. Do not leave valuables, cash or jewelry in your gear bag; the event is not responsible for any lost items. Dress in layers at the start, it will most likely be chilly – about 38 degrees. As the sun rises, it will warm up to about 65 degrees (average high in February). Please check the race day weather forecast and dress accordingly.
Start line is located at the top of TransMountain road. Buses will transport all marathon runners to start line and the last bus will leave the finish line area promptly at 5:30 a.m. Bus assembly area will be adjacent to the finish line, Anthony Park in the Union Plaza Entertainment District. All marathoners should be adequately trained to complete their course within 6 hours. Please note – this is gun time, not chip time. Please plan your training accordingly. If you want to drop out of the race (for non-injury reasons), visit the nearest medical station on the course. Water, sports drink, energy gel, and medical teams will be located on the marathon course at select mile stations.
Awards will be presented to the top men and women finishers in all age categories during the awards ceremony after the race. Please see Register page for more information.
A limited number of licensed massage from Zen Therapeutic Massage therapists will be available for all marathon finishers. Sessions last 20, 40, and 60 minutes and are available for a fee. All post-race massages will take place in the Zen Therapeutic Massage tent at the finish line. Pre-race massage will also be available at the El Paso Marathon Expo.
Personal on-course and finish-line photos will be taken by Enduro Photo. A variety of event photos will be taken. Last year over 96% of the runners and walkers were photographed at either the finish or out along the course. Don’t forget to smile. Please do not cover up your number, as it helps photographers spot you on the course. A link to the photos will be displayed on the El Paso Marathon website, and may also be purchased online.
